Davis is a Northern California college town known for its bike paths, farmers market, and arboretum. Our hub is hosting a plenary roundtable together with the Seattle hub on the topic “Victorians in/and/on the Pacific.” This event will include three speakers in Davis and three in Seattle, with the two hubs virtually connected. The speakers on the Davis end of the plenary panel will include Ian Duncan (UC Berkeley), Jen Hill (UN Reno), and Andrew Way Leong (UC Berkeley). A particular question we seek to ask in this conference is: what does it mean to do Victorian studies from this region? Our hub welcomes abstracts for papers on any topic related to Victorian studies, but we invite participants to reflect on whether and how the Pacific Ocean, the West Coast, or 19th-century California figure into their work in subtle or obvious ways.

Hub Leaders
